July 9th, 2008 - Site Updates

Thanks to Todd for the heads up on a snafu with the older albums Real Audio files.  Those are back online now, though I am working on getting all clips replaced with 30 second .mp3 samples as on the newest album pages.

July 8th, 2008 - TONEAudio: Something Not So Simple

Marc Phillips takes You Inside The World of Stuart Davis
TONEAudio issue #16, pages 57-61

“I have known about singer-songwriter Stuart Davis for over a decade, ever since a friend of mine bought me the Nomen Est Numen CD as a Christmas present. I’d never heard of Davis before, and I assumed it was another one of my friend’s pet projects, another struggling unknown musical act he had decided to befriend and support…I was ready to throw Davis into the same camp until I actually sat down and listened to the CD. I immediately noticed the intelligent lyrics, which were evenly balanced between the playful and the knowing…”

   May 30th, 2008 - The Existential Buzz

Check out this really great writeup slash story about Stu playing the Mill from AmesProgressive.org.  Its a really engaging piece that digs into whats beneath the surface for a lot of fans right now – the new album, the distribution deal, and one of my favorite things; being a music pimp to your friends.

May 5th, 2008 - TONEAudio loves Stuart Davis

The current issue of online audiophile magazine TONEAudio features a positive, substantial review of Stuart Davis’ new album Something Simple ( “consistently excellent” ), and reviewer Marc Phillips promises there is more to come:

“Stuart Davis is one of the most intelligent and spiritual men in the independent music scene. His lyrics are literate and clever… His clear, confident singing voice is unusually expressive and digs deep into your brain. …[Davis is] contemplating the universe with wide-eyed wonder — and a devilish grin.”

“I’ll be writing a feature about him in the next issue. Until then, you should get ahead of the curve and buy Something Simple before Stuart Davis is totally fucking famous.”

…but he likes the bonus audiobook disc. From PopMatters.com

“[Stuart Davis’] newest record (or at least the version I received) contains a bonus sampler of his 2006 audio book Love Has No Opposite… Stuart has no shame or, apparently, fixed religion, which makes for some really interesting streams of thought in his aural prose. Sadly, with the possible exception of “Sugar Bullets” and its keen innuendo, his music doesn’t often hit the same level that his mind is at. Something Simple is indeed something simple, and though there are the odd tracks or turns of phrase that force you to question the state of things, it all comes off like a Christian pop or adult contemporary album (check “Sky God”).” Continue reading “Zen and the Art of Sodomizing a Robot in Front of Your Ex-Girlfriend” at PopMatters.com

A little bird gave me a press release that said:

Writer / Director Eric Schaeffer ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0769703/ ) has offered Stuart Davis starring role in a full length feature film to be shot in Boulder, Colorado this August, 2008. Davis’ character is a happy family man with a spiritual practice, who’s nonetheless hungry for a break in his music career. Eric Schaeffer will play a successful actor seeking love and deeper spiritual life. The inverted arc of these two narratives intersect with a Boulder back drop. The film will feature an all-Stuart Davis sound track (including live performances) and will be completed by the fall and submitted to Sundance and all other festivals, etc. No working title as of yet.

Schaeffer also announced last week he’s using Davis’ song Already Free as the theme music in his new 14-part Showtime Series “I Can’t Believe I’m Still Single”, which will air Sundays and Tuesdays this June, July, and August on two Showtime channels. The series will also be available in Showtime’s On-Demand section.

February 7th, 2008 - team love rides again

kbco.jpgThe single and album have gone out to radio, and as Stuart notes, it got some play on KBCO. I’ve been doing some further cleanup behind the scenes to align the way things are done around the site. Changing over some outdated files and the way the new clips are accessed should be easier on you all. For those wondering, we are working on getting dpsangha back online. Will update when there is news.

   July 28th, 2007 - Forumoscopy

Just a quick note to say the discussion forum is back in action, linkage to the left or clicky-clicky here. Also added a little music player atop the right hand column. Right now it has a bunch of short clips and a few selected unreleased/live tunes. Dig it 🙂 .

   July 23rd, 2007 - update

Just wanted to give y’all a heads up… I took a pass through the unreleased section (which, yes, still needs a hearty re-org) and linked up some tunes that I had lyrics for that weren’t linked. I’ve also assembled the candidates for inclusion on the new album into a separate page. As always, keep up with all of Stuart’s goings-on via his always touching (sometimes in a pervy way) blog over at stuartdavis.com.
